Not that a tulpa necessarily needs to be switched (/fronting) to talk online in the first place, though. They could just be being proxied by their host - basically, having what they mean to say relayed manually.
A tulpa doesn't have to represent your subconscious thought/s at all, whatsoever. People occasionally make tulpas of existing characters (anime/cartoons, games, books), and all that requires is having the idea of what that person is like in your head.
